Delightful Pinto Beans With Crispy Bacon

Creamy Pinto Beans infused with the goodness of crispy bacon and aromatic spices are sure to tantalize your taste buds. Serve with rotis ,naan or chapatis.


300 grams Pinto beans

3 tomatoes finely chopped

2 onions finely chopped

5 green chillies finely chopped

2 teaspoons of ginger garlic paste

1 teaspoon of coriander powder

1/4 teaspoon of cumin powder

1/4 teaspoon of pepper powder

1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder

1/4 teaspoon of garam masala powder

Salt to taste if required

1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves

200 grams bacon or smoked chicken ham


Step 1

Soak the 300 grams of Pinto Beans in enough water and salt to taste for at least 6 to 8 hours, preferably the previous night.

Step 2

Pressure cook the Pinto beans in enough water ,on high for 5 whistles.

Step 3

Add the finely chopped bacon to a pot and sauté until lightly crispy. Remove and keep aside. ( If adding chicken ham ,add oil and saute till done).

Step 4

If required, add oil to a pot and sauté the finely chopped onions until they turn lightly brown.

Step 5

Next ,add in the finely chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Sauté the tomatoes and green chillies. Add in some of the reserved stock of the Pinto beans. Allow the tomatoes to cook , until they turn soft.

Step 5

Incorporate the ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder. Add some of the reserved stock of the Pinto beans. Allow to simmer for 2 minutes.

Step 6

Add in the cooked Pinto beans and mix thoroughly. Allow to cook on simmer for 10 minutes. If required add in salt to taste.

( If adding bacon , salt may not be required)

Step 7

Finally, add in the finely chopped coriander leaves.
