Homestyle Seafood Platter Prawns, Dal & Mackerel Fry

A delightful family-style seafood spread — flavourful, wholesome, and comforting. Prawns stir fry for the kids, mackerel masala fry for us, and a warm bowl of dal with rice to complete the meal. Simple, quick, and absolutely delicious!


Prawns Stir Fry



Ingredients:



500g prawns, cleaned and washed



15 shallots / Madras onions



4 green chillies or bird’s eye chillies



1 tbsp finely chopped garlic



1 inch ginger, finely chopped



1 tbsp coriander powder



½ tsp cumin powder



½ tsp pepper powder



10 basil leaves, roughly torn



1 red capsicum, chopped



A sprinkle of chilli powder (optional)



1½ tsp vinegar



Sauces:



1 tbsp oyster sauce



1 tbsp soy sauce



Method:



1. Sauté ginger and garlic in oil until aromatic.



2. Add shallots and stir fry.



3. Toss in the prawns and mix gently.



4. Add chillies, sauces, and spice powders. Cook until almost done.



5. Add basil leaves and red capsicum; stir well.



6. Add chilli powder if needed.



Dal / Lentil Curry



Ingredients:



150g tuvar dal, soaked for 4 hours



Mustard & cumin seeds



1 tbsp finely chopped garlic



1 inch ginger, finely chopped



1 green chilli, finely chopped



2 medium onions, finely chopped



¼ cup coriander leaves, finely chopped



1 red tomato + 1 green tomato, sliced



1 stock cube



Spice powders:



Chilli powder (as per taste)



½ tsp turmeric powder



¼ tsp pepper powder



Method:



1. Boil dal, remove foam, and cook till half done.



2. In a pressure cooker, heat oil. Add mustard & cumin seeds.



3. Sauté ginger, garlic, and green chilli until aromatic.



4. Add onions , sauté until light brown.



5. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.



6. Add spice powders & stock cube. Pour ½ cup water; cook for 2 minutes.



7. Add half-cooked dal, water as needed, and coriander leaves.



8. Pressure cook for 1 whistle or to your preference.



Mackerel Masala Fry



Ingredients:



2 mackerel, cleaned and slit



For Masala Paste:



Chilli powder (as needed)



¼ tsp turmeric powder



Salt to taste



1 tbsp ginger garlic paste



1 tbsp vinegar



Water to form a thick paste



Method:



1. Stuff the prepared masala paste into the slits of the fish.



2. Coat the fish with semolina + wheat flour.



3. Shallow fry till crisp and golden.
