East Indian fish Thali
Fish Thali
Sting Ray / Pacat Indyal/ Vindaloo, Crab Moilee , Fried lepo , Fried Sting Ray ,Rice And Beetroot Vegetable.
Ingredients for the Sting Ray Indyal/ Vindaloo
500 gms Sting Ray
Clean and wash well
Add turmeric , salt and keep for 20 mins
Wash off and keep aside
For the masala
4 dry kashmiri Chillies
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp pepper corn
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
2 cloves of garlic
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or any other vinegar
1/4 tsp sugar
Small piece of tamarind
1 Onion sliced
Grind all of this to a paste
Ingredients
Fish
Keep some Sting Ray fish pieces for frying and some for curry
8 curry leaves
1/2 inch thinly sliced ginger
Method
Add oil , once hot add the masala and some water. Bring to a boil, add curry leaves, salt , sugar to taste. Cook for a minute. Add fish pieces and cook on medium flame till done.
For the crab Moilee
Ingredients
4 crabs
Clean , wash , add turmeric and salt , keep aside for half an hour.
Wash off well
Ingredients for the Moilee
6 onions finely chopped
4 tomatoes finely chopped
5 green chillies finely chopped
8 cloves garlic finely sliced
1 inch ginger thinly sliced
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp East Indian bottle masala powder
1 cup greens of the spring onion finely chopped
3 cups of water
Method
Add oil , saute the ginger, garlic and green chillies till lightly brown . Add the onions and saute till translucent. Add the tomatoes and cook till soft. Add the East Indian bottle masala powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, salt to taste, 3 cups of water and mix well. Add the only greens of the spring onion, allow to cook for 1 minute. Add the crabs and cook till done.
For the Beetroot Vegetable
ingredients
750 gms beetroot with stalk and leaves
3 green chillies finely chopped
5 cloves garlic finely chopped
1 tsp pepper powder
Salt to taste
Method
Pressure cook the Beetroot for 2 whistles.
Once cool , peel off the skin and chop .
Add oil saute the garlic, green chillies for a minute. Add the finely chopped stalk for 1 Minute. Add the finely chopped leaves.
Add salt, pepper to taste. Toss in the chopped beetroot. Cook for 5 mins.
For the fried lepo and Fried Sting Ray
Masala for marination
2 tbsp Chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp pepper powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
Lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
Mix all well. Coat the fish well and shallow fry.
Alternatives to East Indian Bottle Masala Powder
In case bottle masala is not available you can replace it with Malwani /Malvani masala powder
or
Any fish curry masala powder
or
Use this spice mix
Spice powder mix
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp fennel powder
1/4 tsp pepper powder
