Mandeli Curry ( Golden Anchovy) with raw mango and fried Mandelis

Mandelis or also called golden anchovy , adding raw mango just elevates the taste of this curry. crispy fried mandelis are just yumm.

Ingredients for the masala

6 kashmiri chilies

2 tsp coriander seeds

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp pepper corn

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

2 tsp ginger garlic paste

1/4 cup desiccated Coconut or fresh coconut

2 medium onions sliced


Grind the above with just enough water.


200 ml coconut milk

2 (small ones) Raw mango ( peel the skin and slice)

Few curry leaves

6 mandelis

4 green chilies slit


Heat up some oil ,add few curry leaves. Once it starts to splutter, add the ground masala , salt to taste and some amount of water. Allow it to come to a boil. Add the raw mango slices , slit green chilies and the fish. Cook till done

Lastly add the coconut milk. Cook for a minute.

For the fish Fry

Mandelis approximately 65

1 tsp chili powder or according to taste

1tsp coriander powder

2 tsp ginger garlic paste


1/2 tsp pepper powder or according to taste

Marinate the fish with the above masala. Coat the fish using a mix of rice flour and Semolina

(Ratio 1 cup Rice flour :1/2 cup semolina) Shallow fry.
