Dal Fry

Simple dal fry with spices


200 gms tuvar dal. Soak for few hrs. Then boil till done.


Add 2 tbsp pure ghee. Bagar finely sliced 8 cloves of garlic and 1 inch finely sliced ginger along with 1 or 2 finely sliced green chilli.


Bagar 2 finely chopped medium size onions till brown.


Then add 2 medium size tomatoes finely chopped. (Adding a bit of salt and some amount of water at this stage softens the tomatoes )


Once the tomatoes are soft add spices according to taste

1 tsp chilli powder

1/2tsp cumin and pepper powder each

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2tsp garam masala

1/4tsp turmeric powder and 1/4tsp amchur powder

And 1/4tsp fenugreek powder

Add some amount of water and allow the spices to cook


Take a handful of coriander leaves. Separate the stem from the leaves. Chop the stem fine and chop the leaves.

Add the finely chopped coriander stems to the cooked spice paste and some coriander leaves.

Stir fry. Add the cooked dal with some water and add salt to taste. allow to come to a boil.

Switch gas off.


In a tadka vessel add 1 tbsp ghee and 2 kashmiri chillies broken into 2 piece with few mustard seeds.

Let the ghee come to a boil. Add this tasks to the dal.

Garnish with reserved finely chopped coriander leaves.
