Dal/ Lentil Makhani And Paneer/Cottage Cheese Gravy

Quick Dal Makhani with a mix of dals/ lentils like split urad dal, yellow moong dal, red masoor dal etc. and a paneer gravy with my favourite masala , East Indian Bottle Masala.



Dal Makhani Recipe


Ingredients

150 gms mixed dal

Washed and soaked for an half hour

1 tomato sliced


Method

Pressure cook for 1 whistle on high then 1 on low the dal , sliced tomato and salt to taste.


For the Tadka

2 Onions finely sliced

1 green chilli finely chopped

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

1 tsp chilli powder

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1/2 tsp garam masala powder

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

6 cashew nuts

( I Have used cashew nuts instead of cream, cashew nut paste are a great alternative for cream)

1/2 cup finely chopped coriander leaves

3 tbsp butter


Method

Add oil and a tbsp of butter, once hot sauté the finely chopped onions till lightly brown.Add the finely chopped green chillies, the spice powders and cashew nut paste .Add 1/2 cup water and cook for a minute on medium flame stirring occasionally.

Add now the cooked dal , 2 tbsp butter , finely chopped coriander leaves and salt to taste.

Cook for 2 minutes on low flame.


P.S.

For the cashew nut paste

Powder the cashew nuts, then add very little water to make a paste.

For the Paneer gravy


Ingredients

400 gms paneer , cut into cubes

2 tbsp East Indian Bottle Masala

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp garam masala powder

2 Onions finely chopped

3 tomatoes finely chopped

2 green chillies

1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves

1 tbsp dry Fenugreek leaves

Salt to taste

2 tbsp pizza sauce ( I have used Dr. Otekars pizza sauce)


Method

Add oil , once hot sauté the finely chopped onions till translucent. Add finely chopped green chillies. Add the finely chopped tomatoes and cook till soft . Add next the 2 tbsp pizza sauce, mix well. Add now the garam masala powder, turmeric powder and East Indian Bottle Masala powder. Add in 1 cup water and cook for a minute.

Add the chopped paneer, finely chopped coriander leaves, dry Fenugreek leaves and salt to taste. Cook for a minute.



PS: If East Indian Bottle Masala not available you can replace it with Malwani masala or


Spice powder Recipe


1tsp chilli powder or according to taste

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1/4 tsp cumin powder

1/4 tsp fennel powder

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp garam masala powder



PS: instead of pizza sauce , you can replace it with tomato puree.
