Dal/Lentils


 

Dhal/ Dal is such a simple and satisfying meal , goes well with a simple Steamed Rice, Jeera Rice or just chapatis .Here is a recipe of Dhal with East Indian Bottle Masala

Ingredients 1

200 gms tuvar dhal/ pigeon pea lentil

washed well and then boiled with just enough water till done.

Ingredients 2

2 onions finely chopped

1/4 tsp mustard seeds

1/4 tsp cumin seeds

1/4 tsp asaofetida powder

1 tbsp East Indian Bottle Masala

1/2 tsp chilli powder

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1 soup cube

2 green chillies

1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves

5 cloves garlic mashed with their skin

1inch ginger ,cut into juliens ( Thinly sliced)


Method

Heat up 3 tbsp oil ,add the mustard and cumin seeds.

Add in the garlic cloves and stir fry. Now add in the finely chopped onions ad stir fry till lightly browned.

Mix in the spices of chilli powder, pepper powder, asafoetida and the bottle masala on medium flame.

Add just enough water , soup cube and cook covered for a minute.

Now add the boiled dal and mix well.At this stage you can add some water if required.

Lastly add in the ginger juliens , slit green chillies and finely chopped coriander leaves.
