Potato And Peas Gravy

Simple basic Aloo Matar recipe served with Chapatis


700 gms potatoes chopped into small cubes

100 gms green peas

3 green chillies finely chopped

2 tomatoes finely chopped

200 gms tomatoes

8 to 10 cashewnuts

3 onions finely chopped

1 tsp chilli powder or according to taste

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/4 tsp amchur powder

2 tsp kasuri methi

Salt to taste

1/2 tsp garam masala powder


Puree the 200 gms tomatoes and cashew nuts together and keep aside.Heat up some oil add the finely chopped onions and fry till lightly brown.Add the finely chopped tomatoes and green chillies cook till soft with occasionally stir frying. Adding a little bit of salt and water helps the tomatoes to cook well.

Next add the tomato puree and some water. Allow to cook covered.Add the spices mentioned above, the coriander powder, cumin powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder and amchur powder.

Stir fry well. Add the kasuri methi, potatoes and peas.

Add just enough water to cook. Salt to taste.

Once done add the garam masala powder, finely chopped coriander leaves,salt if required.
