Jeera rice or cumin rice , a pulao consisting of cumin and rice.
Here I have used basmati rice.
Here I have added salt, but a stock cube is also a good alternative to salt.
Adding some brown onions, green chillies and coriander leaves gives it a lovely flavour too.
Ingredients
3 cups basmati Rice
Wash the rice well then soak for 15 mins. Drain all the water well
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 green chilli finely chopped
1 onion sliced
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
Another 1/2 tsp salt
Hot water
2 tbsp ghee/ clarified butter or oil
Method
Once the ghee or oil is hot add the cumin seeds.
Once it start to splutter add the finely chopped green chillies.
Then add the sliced onions and 1 tsp salt.
Saute the onions till brown
( Adding a tsp of salt to the sliced onions helps to get perfect brown sliced onions)
Next add the well drained rice and saute for atleast a minute.
Then add the hot water.
The water level should be just 1 inch above the rice.
Once it comes to a boil add a tsp of lime juice.
Keep covered and cook on low flame.
Once the rice cooked add the finely chopped coriander leaves.
