Kulkuls are a classic festive treat, especially during Christmas. These delightful, crunchy and sweet curls are a family favourite, traditionally made by deep frying. Here is a baked version that still keeps the familiar flavour.
Ingredients
125 gms plain flour/ maida
25 gms semolina
60 gm cubed chilled butter
2 tbsp powder sugar
3 to 4 tbsp ice cold water
1 tsp baking powdered
Method
Bring all the above dry ingredients together (semolina, plain flour, baking powder and powdered sugar).
Add in the chilled butter, using your fingertips bring to a breadcrumb texture.
Then add ice cold water a tbsp at a time to make a soft dough
Wrap in clingfilm and refrigerate for an hour.
Use a fork or a kulkul mould to make the shapes. Brush a tray with oil .place the kulkuls on the brushed tray .Brush the kulkuls with egg wash.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 20 to 25 mins till lightly browned.
Dust with icing sugar as required {optional}.
