Vaal Curry/ Field Beans

A simple Vaal curry with just few spices , to be served with Chapatis.


200 gms Vaal

Soaked previous night,then morning pressure cook with just enough water and salt to taste for 1 whistle then low one whistle.

Reserve the vaal stock.

2 onions finely chopped

3 tomatoes finely chopped

3 green chillies finely chopped

1/4 cup coriander leaves finely chopped

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1 tsp chilli powder

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

Salt to your liking


Add some oil to the vessel, once hot saute onions till lightly browned. Then add the finely chopped tomatoes and saute. Next add in some Val stock and cook till tomatoes turn soft.

Once the tomatoes are soft add in the ginger garlic paste and finely chopped green chillies. Then mix in the chilli powder, cumin powder, pepper powder and turmeric powder.

Add some more of the stock. Allow to cook for a minute.Add in the cooked Vaal ,mix well ,add finely chopped coriander leaves and salt to your liking.

Cook for another 10 minutes on medium flame.
