Cottage cheese and green peas gravy also known as paneer matar. A rich gravy prepared with spices , tomatoes and served with rice or Indian breads like naans or rotis.
Ingredients
400 gms cottage cheese/ paneer
Chopped into cubes
100 gms green peas ( after shelling)
Boil the green peas and keep aside
1/3 cup whisked curd / yoghurt
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tbsp dry Fenugreek leaves
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1/2 tsp sugar
Ingredients 1 for roasting
20 cashew nuts
4 dry kashmiri chilies
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tsp pepper corn
1 tbsp dry Fenugreek leaves / kasuri methi leaves
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
Method
Dry roast the above mentioned ingredients and keep aside
Ingredients 2 for frying
2 medium size onion sliced
2 medium size tomatoes sliced
Method
Once oil is hot saute the onions till translucent. Saute tomatoes till soft.
Add ginger garlic paste. Keep aside to cool.
Method
Grind to paste with just enough water , ingredients 1 and 2. Along with it add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and garam masala powder. Grind to a smooth paste.
Once oil is hot add the ground masala , whisked curd , 2 cups water and salt to taste. Keep stirring.
Add the cottage cheese and cook for a minute. Next add the green peas , Chili powder, dry Fenugreek leaves and 1/2 tsp sugar.
Cook for few minutes.
